Kappa Kappa Psi

Founded on the campus of Oklahoma State University on November 27, 1919, Kappa Kappa Psi is a guiding light with which band students can grow, learn, and develop themselves and their band programs. Kappa Kappa Psi is an organization of opportunity and quality, brimming with historic, well-developed leadership and membership programming that students use to become great leaders, better band members and better adapted young adults prepared for what lies ahead of them.

Kappa Kappa Psi operates primarily as a student service and leadership recognition society whose chief aim is to assist the Director of Bands in developing the leadership and enthusiasm that is required of his/her band. Our goals are to provide the band not only with organized and concentrated service activities, but to give our membership valid and wholesome experiences in organization, leadership and social contacts. The honorary nature of membership is based on our premise that “it is an honor to be selected to serve” this band, its department of music, its sponsoring institution, and the cause of band music in the nation’s colleges and universities.

The educational value to the student of participation in a smaller group’s activities cannot be overemphasized. Experience in planning, organizing and carrying through projects to benefit the larger band organization are necessary if a well-rounded and responsible student leader is to be trained. The fraternal group, as embodied by our active chapters, provides this needed training group for the student by establishing both worthy goals and worthwhile guideposts for a meaningful college experience.

Membership in Kappa Kappa Psi thus becomes an educational and service activity as well as social one. And it is this kind of activity that enriches the band student’s life and sharpens an appreciation for both the best in Music and what it takes to achieve it. It is to this end that our National Fraternity is dedicated.

Delta Omicron is the University of Connecticut chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. The brothers of Delta Omicron have been striving for the highest since 1962, and with 44 active members, the chapter continues to serve the University of Connecticut band programs on and off the field. Uniform organization and distribution, providing pep bands for community functions, and helping high school bands are just a few of various ways the chapter stays actively involved. With many years of service in the making, the chapter maintains strong connections with its alumni and looks forward to welcoming new members.

Message from the Chapter President

Hi! I'm Jacob, and I'm the President of the Delta Omicron chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi here at UConn! I'm a Junior Political Science and History double major. I'm a member of the UConn Marching Band and Pep Band, where I play the trumpet. I've been playing the trumpet for the past 11 years (ever since the 5th grade). For most of my life, music has had a major impact on me. I've met some of my closest friends in Middle and High School, along with in college, from band programs. Not only that, but music is also, in my opinion, one of the best forms of artistic expression, and that opinion has only grown on my with time. So, I wanted to give something back to music for all its given me, which is why I accepted my invitation to join this org. Later, my love for this org, the people in it, and the brotherhood formed led to me running for President in order to give back to the org. Through KKPsi, I've honed my leadership skills, learned more on how to help out music in my community, and met some amazing people. I love being able to work with other service-minded individuals to achieve a common goal!

President: Jacob Puleo
