Alpha Phi Omega is a gender-inclusive national service fraternity founded in 1925 at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania on principles derived from the Scout Oath and Law of the Boy Scouts of America. Guided by the three Cardinal Principles of Leadership, Friendship, and Service, our goal is to develop leaders, build lifelong friendships, and render service to our campus, community, and nation. It is the single most represented gender-inclusive service organization in the United States, with more than 525,000 members initiated across over 375 campuses since its founding. The University of Connecticut's chapter, Delta Sigma, was chartered on January 12, 1947, and has helped care for UConn’s live mascot, Jonathan the Husky, since 1970. APO's vision is to create inclusive communities for a more peaceful world in which to make a life, by developing leaders, uniting members through friendship, and rendering service to all.

When I joined Alpha Phi Omega as a freshman, I had no idea it would become the center of my time at UConn, but the more I got involved, the more I found my people here. What I love most about APO is the variety of our service. In a single weekend, members might volunteer with several completely different organizations, and there is truly something for everyone. I gravitate toward outdoor projects, while others enjoy working with animals, supporting children’s programs, or volunteering with health-focused organizations. That range is what makes our chapter special: it brings together people who genuinely want to serve and gives them the opportunity to build lasting friendships while doing it. APO also gave me the confidence to step into leadership before I thought of myself as a leader, and I have watched it do the same for many others. I am proud to represent a chapter that has lived out Leadership, Friendship, and Service at UConn since 1947.
